40 Days of Prayer and Fasting 2025

For the past 3 years, the Door of Hope community has gathered for focused prayer together everyday for a season of 40 days to discern the voice of God together.

These seasons have brought a closeness with God, each other and clarity for significant issues that affect us and our broader community.

We will be praying again this year - starting our 40 Days on July 2nd and finishing on August 10th. We are also excited to invite our community to consider adding the spiritual practice of fasting to their routine during this period.

Fasting is the practice of going without food during daylight hours for a set period of time. Fasting is an act of worship - sacrificing some of our comfort to abide in Jesus and bring more focus on God's presence and voice in our lives. As we fast, we pray more fervently, draw closer to God, and spend time listening to the Holy Spirit, reminding ourselves that Jesus is the Living Water and Bread of Life that our souls desperately need to live. Christian fasting has always been intimately linked with the practice of prayer.

If you'd like to join our community in prayer AND fasting this year, you may wish to consider these options:

  • Fast during daylight hours (water and clear fluids permitted) for 40 days (except Sundays)
  • Fast a certain meal every day (eg lunch) for 40 days (except Sundays)
  • Fast on certain days of the week (except Sunday) for 40 days (eg every Wednesday and Friday)
  • Abstain from other activities for 40 days (eg social media, TV, drinking coffee, eating junk food)

*If you have concerns that fasting will impact a health condition negatively, please consult your doctor.

As an added practice, you may wish to consider giving your 'missed meals' to somebody in our community who can't afford to eat regular meals by donating funds or non-perishable supplies to our Emergency Food Pantry, or other community organisations such as Launceston City Mission.

There are so many ways and times to connect with us during our 40 days of prayer:

We will have the following prayer times running:

6 am - Zoom prayer | daily | HERE
12 pm - In-person prayer in the Door of Hope prayer room | daily
8 pm - Zoom prayer | daily | HERE

2025 Prayer Points

Our staff ministry leaders recently discerned together three areas of focus for our 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting:

1. Hunger and Thirst

Hunger and thirst are experiences that we all have. God’s word often uses these physical experiences to describe how we relate to God.

What are we hungering and thirsting after?

Matthew 5:6 says …

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied."

2. Strategic Planning

We have had a rhythm of Strategic Planning for many years.

A process that seeks to discern God’s heart for us in light of our vision to be a Door of Hope, through Jesus Christ, in a fragile and uncertain world.

We desire that every member of our community be a listener and hear God.

These 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting contributes to our planning and discernment in the months to come.

Who should we be? What should we know? What should we do?

3. Mission

We are image bearers of God, and we partner with God in His mission.

To reconcile all of creation back to Himself, and to go and make disciple of all nations, baptising them and teaching them to obey everything He has commanded.

We partner with God’s mission in our daily, ordinary lives.

Some locally, some digitally, some overseas.
