We continue our series on the Parakletos, the Holy Spirit, the God of all comfort. The central theme of this service is that God is our comforter, and through Him, we can comfort others. Wayne explores whether the Holy Spirit still comforts today and how we can receive this comfort. Our focus scripture is 2 Corinthians 1:3-5, which speaks of God as the Father of all mercy and healing counsel, who comforts us in our troubles so we can comfort others.
Wayne shared personal stories from four chapters of his life: the distant past, recent past, present, and future. In the distant past, he recounted a harrowing flight in Papua New Guinea where God's promise from Habakkuk 3:19 comforted him. In the recent past, Wayne spoke about his spinal surgery in 2020 and how God's compassion was evident through the support of friends, family, and the church community. In the present, he emphasized the importance of immersion in God's Word, involvement with God's people, and intercession for others as ways to experience God's comfort.
Looking to the future, Wayne expressed confidence in God's promises, citing 2 Timothy 1 and Revelation 21, which assure us of a future without pain, mourning, or death. He encouraged everyone to accept the Holy Spirit's comfort and advocacy in their lives, reminding them of Jesus' promise of peace.
